tooyoungforthelivingdead asked: love the music, but isn't the cover of Fiesta de los Muertos (and the title too, sorta) pretty racially stereotype-y/cultural appropriation-y? I mean, I get that it's about death and shit, but I know a lot of Mexican people get pissed as hell the amount of non-Mexicans that steal the imagery of Dia de los Muertos and adapt it for their own ends without the culture behind it. thoughts? (I'd really appreciate a real answer not "oh it's fine don't think about it too much")
it refers, mainly, to the murder of my friend ben in 2009, whilst most of my town were dressed in halloween attire. he was killed over a halloween hat that 3 guys took from his girlfriend and he asked for back. i decided not to go out that night.
i did not want to put any halloween imagery in it, but i feel that, in this case, it’s justifiable cultural appropriation.
you’re right, it’s very common, to the point where it would, in my opinion, be a bit anachronistic to take too much offence. but i do apologise to anyone who is offended.

So, I have been concentrating mostly on playing with Lay It On The Line in last few months, recording our mini album and generally enjoying being in a band. Which is good because it’s given me the rest from acoustic stuff I needed. I haven’t played a solo show since I supported Crazy Arm in London back in October, but I will be playing some shows in March in Europe with Tim Holehouse, and then some UK shows are being planned too.
‘Fiesta De Los Muertos’ has got some very kind words of review from people which is ace. It’s going to be available on Amazon and all that on CD on February 4th. It’s already being sold by my label etc (see my last post) but if you prefer the tried and tested, it’s available from Amazon here:

In the meantime, the masters for the Lay It On The Line are arriving tomorrow, so I am excited, but I’m also glad I picked up my acoustic today and ran through a tentative set for playing live again..
